AttivitÃ
- INTERVENTION AT THE LOCAL LEVEL:
The activity will take place in the field in two phases:
- Site survey phase:
Phase of surveying sites that need action to combat erosion.
Once the locations are listed, they are to be visited by the people involved so that they are aware of the problem and can discuss solutions.
- Intervention through natural engineering solutions:
This is based on intervention through natural engineering solutions found. At this stage, the type of intervention will have already been defined and there will be interested entities involved in the process (e.g., local authorities, individuals, and companies in the gardening/agriculture area). These entities will support the project by providing materials and plants, helping to control the costs of the activity
- NATURE LAB, TEST LAB:
This activity will take place in the location of Anjos, Portugal, which is highly exposed to erosion. This location will be an experimental center, where species of climbing plants will be germinated and planted, studying their development and characteristics over 5 years. The land will be under the responsibility of the Poiomar Association and will be used exclusively for the cultivation and study of plants for natural engineering.
NaturaLab will be the most important laboratory of the project and will play a central role in defining the species to be adopted in the local intervention phase, which will take place in the third semester of the project. The target groups for this activity are Poiomar employees and students who will participate in the project. Both of these groups will have the opportunity to apply and analyze the behavior, growth and function of climbing plants in the field.
Results
- E-BOOK CREEPER:
The CREEPER e-book is one of the final outcomes of the project and will be the framework of the project in its pedagogical and technical parts.
Pedagogical part:
In the pedagogical part, the implemented methodology will be presented, describing the involvement of the member schools, the tasks performed by the students, the subject areas involved, the skills developed, the results in the development of the school, and the overall development of the students.
Technical part:
In the technical part of the e-Book, the results of the various project actions will be presented:
- Survey of sites in need of intervention
- Survey of climbing plant species
- Natural engineering to combat erosion with climbing plants
- Definition of the characterization system for the identified plants
- Characterization of climbing plants according to the defined system
- Local criteria/plant to be used
- Intervention at the local level
